Will it rain on your wedding day? That is the million dollar question. Sadly, the truth is, no one has the answer!
All the planning in the world can’t control the weather on your wedding day. For Ruby and Matt, there was torrential rain followed by large hail right at the time of their ceremony. It was in the best interest of all guests and our couple, to hold the ceremony inside the glass marquee. Thankfully the large marquee was ample in size to hold both ceremony and the reception!
With a good Wedding Planner and team of suppliers behind you, a backup plan can be put in place, just in case! Having a positive attitude, like Ruby and Matt when things don’t quite go to plan, helps put everything in perspective.

“We met in 2008 in year 10 at the age of 15. At this point in your life, you’re trying to work out what you want to do with your life, and the person you want to be. The last thing you expect, is to meet your life partner. Roaming the school yard, fortunately for us we did. Matt and I are both similar and completely different at the same time. He keeps me grounded while I lift him up.
Like most girls I had my wedding planned the moment he asked me to his girlfriend. On September 2019 (after 11 years of waiting) he finally popped the question. We wanted to marry the following year and October seemed like a good month in between seasons. The planning started right away searching venues, suppliers and creating the dream Pinterest board.
COVID created nothing but its challenges with planning a wedding, Two months prior to our wedding, guests were still restricted and dancing was a no go, but we held on tight and everything worked out! 100 guests and dance floor permitted. Having great suppliers and a wedding planner to help us through these questionable times was a blessing. Matt and I had a backup date and all vendors ready to move in the event we had too.”
THE VENUE
We both wanted a venue that was local but felt like a destination wedding at the same time. Matt and I found our happy medium with Rosewood Estate in Beechmont. Showcasing the beautiful Gold Coast skyline and providing a blank canvas to create the wedding of our dreams. Rosewood Estate was booked, before there was even a structure as we fell in love with the estate on its own.
Creating a DIY wedding comes with its challenges and also benefits. It is definitely overwhelming when you have to do everything from linen for the tables to dessert spoons. But it also meant my Pinterest board came to life! From neon signs to a champagne tower, we had it all. I would recommend having great trustworthy suppliers and also investing in a Wedding Planner. Bronwyn from Scenic Rim Bride, managed my endless texts, emails and calls with grace through the entire process. She helped bring my ideas to life and delivered the wedding of my dreams.
THE LINE UP
Our suppliers were known either to Matt and I or Bronwyn. The reason we did this was due to wanting people on the day that felt like a part of the party. Each supplier brought something different to the day to help create a magical wedding for Matt and I. Having that relationship with the vendors helped navigate those questionable times during 2020.
Before getting married I said I couldn’t wait for the moment the ceremony was over! You now have a husband and know you’re heading to a party with your friends. But it turned out my favourite moment was seeing Matt for the first time at the end of the aisle. Matt’s smile brought the strangest sense of calm to me.
ADVICE
Don’t get caught up in things you can’t control like the weather! It literally rain, hailed and shined on our day and we wouldn’t change it for the world. When we received our wedding video and photos, we couldn’t have been happier!
Weddings are busy so enjoy the conversations and don’t worry about trying to have them with everyone. It’s these conversations you’ll remember the most.
Make sure you have moments with your husband. The night gets busy trying to catch up with everyone, Matt made a conscious effort to pull me aside and just look around taking in everything together.
Do something fun and different. We had a tequila gun and shots which took the party to the next level. This also created some really fun photos!
