Canungra Valley Vineyard

Kyal and I met through mutual friends.  We both had partners initially, with both relationships ending around the same time.  Fast forward a few months Kyal plucked up the courage to ask his friends to organise for us all to hang out.  We chatted so much and Kyal asked for my number and it snowballed from there.

In a few weeks Kyal decided he wanted to be with me, however I still wasn’t sure he really knew me yet.  Regardless, he packed up all his things and moved from Tamworth to the Gold Coast.  He told his friends and family that he was going to the coast to marry a girl. We were inseparable from then and moved in together within weeks. We had been together a few months, and Kyal had made it very clear he wanted to marry me.  We started planning a ring that I would love forever and had it made.

I thought I knew when Kyal would propose but he surprised me.  Early with a picnic down by the Currumbin rock pools, Kyal popped the question 9 months after us being together.

We preferred using a venue that assisted us with everything.  From the furniture to set up and onsite catering with management on the day.  We just didn’t want to worry as much on the day and have it take away from our experience if we went with a blank canvas venue.

It took over one year to confirm our venue as the Gold Coast and Tweed region is so spoilt for choice. However, I really stress the importance of visiting your favorites and getting a feel on-site of what your day might be like.

Wedding open days are the best way for that! We looked at so many places before deciding on the O’Reillys Canungra Valley Vineyard.  It just ticked so many boxes for us. The beautiful scenery and the price was a lot more reasonable and flexibility with their packages.

For example we had a buffet dinner instead of an alternative drop, which had a wide variety of options to chose from. Then we changed the canapé option to a grazing table. For us, this made the day a little less formal and more relaxed!

The venue set up everything with the help of styling, including a mini caravan used as a mobile bar for the post ceremony drinks.  Our guests could mingle creekside and walk over to say hello to the adorable Alpaca’s. Canungra Valley Vineyards also suggested a lovely touch by pre-purchasing food cups for our guests to feed the Alpaca’s.  This encouraged our guests to go feed, pat and stay entertained whilst we were off having our photos. The evening was slightly cold and the vineyard staff went so far as to offer our guests blankets which was a nice touch.

Unless you have a lot of friends and family that can assist you with the arrangements, or a Wedding Planner.  It can take a lot of effort to arrange with little time to do everything yourself. Just getting everything you need for the day, and services like tan, nails, hair or coloring etc, so don’t overwhelm yourself!

We both stayed the night before close to the venue which added to our wedding experience.  Kyal stayed at the Wagon Wheel Villas in Canungra and I stayed at the Greenlee Cottages.  Greenlee Cottages is located on a beautiful macadamia farm, which was the perfect set up for our getting ready photos.

We went on a small honeymoon to New Zealand after the wedding. It was so romantic and a beautiful experience after the stress of the wedding.  As we had already bought a house before locking in wedding plans, as we knew that was the greater expense and harder as a young couple.   Now happily married in our own home and hoping to soon start a family together!

My biggest recommendation is, to take your time.  Look into the vendors you really want to make you day come to life, and don’t be afraid to ask for help!  The only problem on our wedding day was that I was the only person who really knew what was going on. Make sure you have people that know the ins and outs of your day so no one is looking at each other asking what to do!

Choose your bridal party wisely with people that are really going to help and create less stress for you!  Not those who expect to turn up on the day and just smile for photos!

Weddings can be so expensive so work out what is most important to you both.  Then what you can arrange to save on with other things! I’m a creative person so I thought making my own invitations and signage for the day gave it a more personal and special touch!

If you have anyone with special skills i.e. nail / makeup /hair artists, cake makers, florists, then use them to your advantage! That way you can focus your budget on those aspects that mean the most to you, like the photographer or catering!

Our bridesmaids dresses were only $99 each, which come in almost every colour and are very flattering to most body shapes. They were the perfect option for our budget. My bridesmaids loved them as the quality was great and as different shaped women, they all still felt beautiful in the same dress!

Our vendors went above and beyond to make the day as incredible as it was and I couldn’t recommend them more highly.

Most of all being Ash of Ivory and Rose Photography.  Ash made us feel so comfortable and gave everyone plenty of direction without the day feeling too structured! Kyal and I just wanted to relax and have fun. As you can see from our photos, we were just so happy and comfortable to be ourselves.

Toni Paget our Celebrant was incredible.  She made the whole legal process effortless as was so naturally comforting and relaxed on the day! Kyal and I are not at all religious and wanted to make sure the ceremony wasn’t boring.  Toni had everyone laughing and in tears with little stories of us.

My Makeup Artist was Richelle, who was the artist for one of my best friends weddings so I knew how talented she was. I just didn’t expect her to make me look and feel so beautiful. As someone who is very self conscious, she truly turned me into a princess, whilst still looking like myself! I barely felt the makeup I had on.  It wasn’t cakey or uncomfortable, and lasted through tears and smile lines all day!
